SVG searching for national road tennis champions
The search is on for both a male and female national road tennis champion to represent St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) at the World Road Tennis Championships, set for Barbados next month.{{more}}
The process of selection began last Wednesday at the Layou hard court and continued last Friday at South Rivers.
National footballer Lemus Christopher took the Layou leg, with Chrisroy John, the runner-up, while national table tennis player Unica Velox advanced to the finals from the womenâs list.
Today, Tuesday, the Kingstown leg will be convened at the Arnos Vale Netball Complex, with the finals set for the same venue on Thursday.
The zonal winners and their runners-up will face off in the finals.
The Department of Physical Education and Sports within the Ministry of Tourism, Youth and Sports is facilitating the local competitions.
To be staged under the theme: âRoad Tennis for All,â the World Tournament will run from November 9 to November 13 and will be held at the Springer Memorial Secondary Schoolâs auditorium, Government Hill, St Michael, Barbados.
Competing countries will vie for various cash prizes, amounting to BDS$20,000.
Apart from SVG, regional participation will come from Jamaica, Guyana, St Lucia, as well as host Barbados, and internationally from the United States.
The World Road Tennis Championships forms part of the celebrations for Barbadosâ 50th anniversary of political independence.(RT)
