Postponements, cancellations hit TASVG’s road racing season
It has been a near drought in road racing activities put on by Team Athletics SVG, despite having a wash of events listed on its calendar.
Registering the first postponement was the Bequia 5k, which should have been convened on that Grenadine island on September 4. That event was, however, staged last Sunday, October 9.{{more}}
But hit with the delete button was the Biabou Community 5K Road Race, which was set to run off September 11.
Team Athletics SVG has indicated that the Log Enterprises races are on “suspensionâ.
The first was the Byera Hill 5k, which should have come off last Sunday, October 9, with the Sion Hill Sprint â November 6 and the grand finale on December 11 in North Leeward.
A release from Team Athletics SVG last Wednesday noted: “Please be advised that the Log Enterprises Byera Hill 5K road race scheduled for the 9 October 2016 has been postponed until further notice…The races for the 6 November and 11 December also stand in suspension.â
The release added: “This postponement is as a result of a request from the sponsor, who indicated that negotiations with their head office are still in processâ¦TASVG regrets any inconvenience caused.â
Thus far, only the High Performance Layou 5k came off as scheduled on September 18 and the Round D Town Road Relay on September 25.
The Sion Hill Pre-Independence Road Race, pencilled in for this Sunday, October 16, will not come off as previously noted.
Leroy Llewellyn, the person charged with organization of that race, told SEARCHLIGHT that “lack of sponsorshipâ forced the cancellation of the event.
Pending are the Marriaqua 5k Road Race, scheduled for November 13, with the final race in the TASVG Community 5ks positioned for North Windward, November 27.
Amidst the other uncertainties, there is assurance in the hosting of the NACAC Chatoyer International Endurance 10k, slated for November 20.
This race is routed for Gordon Yard to the Chateaubelair Playing Field, and is expected to attract regional and international participation as well.
It is dubbed as “The Worldâs Most Challenging 10Kâ.(RT)
