TASVG focuses on Physical Literacy in LTAD Workshop
Team Athletics SVG (TASVG) will on October 13 and 14 host a workshop as part of its Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) programme.
Set to convene at Frenches House in Kingstown, the focus of the workshop will be “Physical Literacy,â aimed at getting the involvement of the many coaches here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}
Canadian Drew Mitchell will be the facilitator for the two days, and sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., on both days.
Mitchell, who is a member of Sport For Life Canada, will address topics such as: What is Physical Therapy; Why is Physical Therapy important; Physical Literacy, Literacy and Numeracy; Integrating Physical Literacy into programmes; as well as Physical Literacy practical sessions, among others.
Drew is the director of Physical Literacy for the Sport For Life Society and works as a consultant focussed on the development of physical literacy at the community level and promoting the Canadian Sport For Life Movement.
This is the second workshop for the year relative to the LTAD, in which athletics is one of five sporting disciplines, the others being beach volleyball, cycling, swimming and table tennis.
In February, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee, a member of CANOC â the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees â launched the Sports For Life programme, with another Canadian, Richard Way, the presenter.
St Vincent and the Grenadines is among six Caribbean countries which are part of the LTAD pilot project. The others are the Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Haiti, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.(RT)
