‘I enjoy serving’ – Denisford Foster
Being at the helm of an organization for over 26 years, one may readily think it is burdensome, but for Denisford Foster, it is the complete opposite.
Foster, who was recently re-elected president of the Ashburton Sports and Cultural Organization (ASCO) for his 27th consecutive term, says he was destined to be of service to people.{{more}}
âI enjoy serving …I enjoy doing what I do…. It is the confidence which people place in me, so I have to give back and always try my best,â Foster told SEARCHLIGHT.
Foster said that as president of ASCO over those years, he had to make several personal sacrifices.
âI wish I could do more for ASCO, but I donât have the finance to do so,â Foster related.
Foster, who is the only president ASCO has had since the community organization came into being in 1990, noted that despite the challenges over the years, he will go on for a few years until someone else comes forward.
He said that part of his undertaking is to groom future leaders, but not many of them stick around long enough so that he can step aside.
The newly elected executive also includes Hamish Thomas â first vice-president, Shene Trimmingham â second vice-president; Cashena Foster â secretary; Marlon Holder is the assistant secretaryâtreasurer; Joel Quammie â public relations officer; and committee members â Coran Mc Fee, Tenisha Jack and Desaree Laborde.
The immediate task of the executive is to get the ASCO netball competition going. The competition is set to commence on October 16 at the Gomea Methodist School hard court.
Also in the making is the revived ASCO womenâs competition, which when planned and executed will have a village format, embracing the villages primarily in the Belair and Gomea communities.(RT)
