Middlesex trump BCL 20/20 cricket title

Vincentian outfit Middlesex was crowned 2016 Brooklyn Cricket League (BCL) twenty/20 champions, last Saturday at Marine Park C.

But it was a bitter-sweet triumph for Middlesex, after their opponents Pak Brighton walked off the field. Pak Brighton were 31 for 5, in search of 177.{{more}}

Reports say that the Pak Brighton team was dissatisfied with a decision by one of the umpires, hence took the action to forfeit the match, handing the title to Middlesex.

The match which got off to a late start because of a wet pitch and bowlers’ run ups, saw Middlesex being inserted after Pak Brighton had won the toss.

A fifth wicket partnership of 87 between Tegana Mc Kenzie and Donovan Nelson excavated Middlesex from 52 for 4, to eventually reach 176 for 5, from their 20 overs.

Nelson stroked six sixes and a solitary boundary in his knock of 68, while Mark Audain at the top of the order, made 21.

Bowling for Pak Brighton, Thir Sadiq had 2 for 24 and Shahid 2 for 40.

In Pak Brighton’s premature reply, Dominic Audain had scalped 2 for 5.

Reports are that the BCL executive has taken punitive against Pak Brighton, which joined the set-up two years ago.

Pak Brighton were slated to meet another Vincentian club, Cavaliers, on Sunday in one of three matches, as the 35-over competition bowled off.

However, that match was not convened because of the BCL’s decision.(RT)
