The competition, which is open to business houses, is hosted by the National Sports Council, in partnership with the Division of Physical Education and Sports.

The competition runs up to October 22 and coincides with the commemoration of this country’s 37th anniversary of political independence.

Teams are guaranteed a winner’s cash prize of EC $1,500; second place – $1,000 and third place – $800.

The undertaking by the NSC and the Division of Physical Education and Sports fills the void left by the Rotary Club South Independence Softball Cricket Competition, which was last staged in 2013.

However, the street cricket format differs from what obtained in the Rotary’s set-up. Street 20 cricket involves five four-ball overs. Each player, inclusive of a female, except the wicketkeeper, must bowl an over. When a male is bowling to a female, he must bowl over arm.

Additionally, only in the last over will wides and no balls be re-bowled; the other times would see two runs credited to the batting team for each infraction of wides and no balls.(RT)
