Kesrick Williams poised for T/20 international match debut
Kesrick Williams could become the first Vincentian cricketer to represent the West Indies in a Twenty/20 international match.
A right-arm fast bowler, Williams was drafted into the senior team for the three-match series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, as a replacement for Andre Russell.{{more}}
Called up to represent the West Indies A team in the 50-over format against Sri Lanka A from October 24 to 30, Williams takes the place of Russell, who cited “personal reasonsâ, for his unavailability.
The 26-yearâold Williams joins two other uncapped players in the 15-member team. The other two are Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell.
It has been a healthy spell for Williams recently, who last month helped the Jamaica Tallawahs become the 2016 champions of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
He was the Tallawahsâ leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets, and was third overall in the wicket-taking column.
Also, Williams was named in the CPL XI and received the award for taking the best catch in the tournament, dubbed the Republic Bank Classic Catch.
Williams, 26, has represented the Windward Islands in the regional four-day tournament and the Combined Campuses and Colleges in the regional Super-50 and the then Caribbean Twenty/20 tournament, but with minimum success.
West Indies open their three-match T/20 series on Friday in Dubai, with the other two on September 24 and 27.
