Hatched November 13, when Vincy Heat faced the USA in the World Cup qualifiers in Missouri, St Louis, plans were put in motion to start a Go Fund Me account for the local team, with collections going directly to the players.
Among the front runners in the effort were Joanne Legair, James Cordice, Kensley John and Curlina Edwards, with the kick-off of the initiative taking place during the return trip of a bus ride from Missouri to New York.
The collection bagged US$1,300, which was handed over on Friday, September 2, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Edwards commended the players for their effort, despite out of reckoning for advancement in the qualifiers.
âEven though you did not win, we have seen some improvements since you played the US last year … We will continue to try to support you guys… It wonât stop here,â Edwards promised.
Vincy Heatâs captain for the match versus the USA Theon Gordon, on behalf of the team, reciprocated by thanking Edwards for the gesture.
