A three-week camp on the Grenadine island of Mustique, followed by a one-day session in Sandy Bay and four days at the Sion Hill Playing Field mapped out this yearâs plan.
During the camps, the attendees were taken through the basics of football and given an insight into the Touch Masters style of coaching.
Des Morris, one of the directors of Touch Masters, told SEARCHLIGHT that by December there will be two satellite coaching stations, which will run as precursors to the academy.
“We will be setting up on the Windward side and on the Leeward side, where one will be in Layou and the other in South Union,â Morris revealed.
He said that it is important that young players get with it at an early stage.
“We have to get these kids in a structure from an early age,
otherwise we will lose them … We have too much talent to leave to go to the waste,â Morris advised.
Morris believes that taking initiatives, such as the establishment of the academy, was vital in the development of the sport, as the current executive of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation is not doing enough to ensure that proper structures are put in place.
Morris, a former national player, and who is part of the famed âMorris trio,â which also includes elder brothers Pete and Stanley, all of whom reside in the USA, said he is committed to helping St Vincent and the Grenadinesâ football.
Last year, Pete hosted a five-day camp at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field, under the Pete Morris Football Academy.
That camp benefitted from the expertise of FC Barcelonaâs head youth coaching director, Jefrey Callau Casanova.
