Following identification exercises in Fitz-Hughes, Sandy Bay and Layou, seven players from each of the three areas were selected to participate in an enhancement programme, which took place at the West St George Secondary School, August 22-26.
Under the guidance of coaches Damion Dublin and Joseph Carrington, the prospective table tennis players were taken through the basic drills and techniques.
A competition among the 21 players last Friday rounded off their involvement.
The participants were all presented with certificates of participation, with some gaining bronze awards, based on their level of competencies.
President of the SVGTTA Tyrone Jack said he hoped that the players will remain in the sport and fulfil the organizationâs mandate of bringing young emerging table tennis players to the fore. Scaffolding the efforts of the SVGTTA, the Department of Physical Education and Sports. conducted a fiveâweek programme, which was a separate undertaking done by the local parent body of the sport.
The departmentâs programme was conducted by Sean Stanley, who is also the public relations officer of the SVGTTA.(RT)
