Steveon Taylor wins fifth BBA First Division MVP
For the fifth year in a row, Steveon Taylor has sewn up the MVP award of the First Division of the Bequia Basketball Association (BBA) annual tournament.
Taylor, of second placed East Blazers, combiled 133 points, 86 rebounds, 32 assists, 20 steals and 5 blocks in the six games he played. His previous four accolades were when he appeared for Duke.{{more}}
Other than the overall MVP, Taylor had the most points and the most assists.
Taking the most rebounds was Jonas King of Generals, whose 90 bettered all others, while his teammate Mark Browne had the most steals â 35. Browne was named the divisionâs most improved player. Denroy Hutchins of Wizards claimed the award for most blocks â 11 and Xaughn Dennie of Wizards was the MVP of the play-off series.
At the other end of the age line, the Under-16 Division, which was won by Hornets, saw second placed Dragonsâ Omario Louie adjudged the overall most valuable player. Louie attained the award for most points with 124 in 10 games.
Meanwhile, Hornetsâ Dimitri Peniston had the most assists â 55 and Korie Lewis had the most steals â 123, both in 10 games played.
Lewis also was adjudged the most improved player, and Tristin Stowe was adjudged the MVP of the final best of three series. Young Wizardsâ Chad James got the most blocks â 34 and most rebounds â 130.
The MVPs for each of the teams were Omario Louie â Dragons, Corsini Pollard â Hawks, Chadwin Tannis â Titans, Dimitri Peniston â Hornets, Keon Gooding â Rockets and Chad James â Young Wizards.
Tannis and Elton Wilson received a pair of sneakers each from Gregg Friday, who resides in Taiwan.
Other awards
Also accepting awards were the winning coaches Mikey Hutchins of U-16 champions Hornets; Austin Derrick of Second Division champions Southern Stars, Seneca Mc Intosh of First Division winners Wizards.
President of the BBA Sabrina Mitchell also presented two special recognition awards to non-players.
Marissa Gregg was presented with a plaque for her dedication and service to the Bequia Basketball Association as “dedicated bartenderâ.
Also, Clecia John was rewarded with the Most Loyal Fan award for her presence at every night of basketball for the seven-week tournament, as well as her moral support of the BBA.
The 2016 edition marked the 18th year of the Bequia Basketball Tournament.(RT)
