One of the participants who said he benefited tremendously from the camp was Tarique John.
A student of the Emmanuel High School Mespo and winner of the 200m race at last Inter-Secondary Schoolsâ track meet, John revealed that he learnt a lot during the six weeks.
âI have improved on my technique, which should make me run faster,â John remarked.
Joining John in being impressed with the camp was Annicia Richards, a student of the Intermediate High School. This being her first year attending such a camp, Richards noted that her experience was âgoodâ. Saying that she is more adept at the 400m, Richards stated that she was glad that she was exposed to the hurdles event.
Head of the IT-DAT Academy Michael Ollivierre noted that it was not all about the track and running.
âIn addition, participants were exposed to the principles of farming and were given motivational talks by various speakers, including Desiree Richards and Sebastian âBassyâ Alexander,â Ollivierre disclosed.
However, holding his own, Ollivierre requested of other practising track and field coaches to use the long vacation time to keep their athletes in shape and not wait on when it was close to the track season, which is mainly the first quarter of the year, to begin to put in some work.
The IT-DAT Academyâs camp received sponsorship from the National Lotteries Authority, Tus-T Water and Webbâs School Boy Beer.(RT)
