SVG win Girls’ Under-14 singles at ITF Junior tournament
Vincentian Brianna Nash won the Girls Under-14 Singles Title in the International Tennis Federationâs (ITF) Junior Championships which took place in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) last week.{{more}}
Nash won all her matches in the round robin tournament, thus champing the age segment in the tournament that was played at the Buccama Bay Tennis courts and at the National Tennis Centre at Villa.
She however had to settle for the runner-up place in the Under-14 doubles, when she and Nicolette Hadaway were beaten by Samaar Davis and Selene Kentish of Antigua and Barbuda, 6-4, 7-5.
It was also a runner-up placing for the pair of Akeil De Roche and Antonio Cain in the Boys Under-14 doubles. The Vincentian duo were outdone by Aidan Bousquet and Maxx Williams of St. Lucia, by a 6-1, 6-3 margin.
Meanwhile, Barbadian, James Mc Kenzie took the Boys Under-14 Singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Liam Sheppard of Trinidad and Tobago.
In the male Under-18 Blaise Bicknell of the USA beat Mexicoâs Eduardo Roldan of Mexico, 6-3, 6-0.
The doubles in that age group resulted in Donte Armbrister of the Bahamas and Scott Hackshaw of Trinidad and Tobago outlasting the pair of Tagel Lewis â St Lucia and Nabeel Mohammed of Trinidad and Tobago, 2-6, 6-4 and 10-6 in the tie breaker.
On the female side, Jade Bornay of France was better than Csilla Fodor of Hungary beating her 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the title match.
And the Under-18 girlsâ doubles was secured by the combination of Maria Mc Kay (USA) and Alexandra Tutecky of Canada won 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 over Bonay and American Katie Lafrance.
Twenty-one countries participated in the week-long event, which was held here for the first time in 2007, and since, has been an annual fixture on the ITF junior tennis calendar.(RT)
