Start of NCIL Football Championships 2016 reset

The National Community Inter- League (NCIL) Football Championships have been rescheduled to August 28, after originally being slated for last Sunday, August 14.{{more}}

This year’s edition will see, for the first time, an Under-10 Division.

Confirming the introduction of the division was president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) Venold Combs, when he addressed the opening of the Barrouallie Football League at the Keartons Playing Field, recently.

Coombs, who, as usual, boasted of his executive’s achievements during his speech, echoed, “We are going to bring another feature for the first time in St Vincent and the Grenadines. We are going to have a national Under-10 tournament…. I know development starts from the nursery level, that’s why we are going to have the national inter league competition.”

He noted that the start of the Under-10 Division is primarily “for the further enhancement of football in this country.”

The Under-10 Division will add to the well established senior male and female divisions, the Under-14, with an Under-18 division this time around, rather than the usual Under-17.

SEARCHLIGHT understands that the Under-14 and Under-18 Divisions were strategically decided on to facilitate the selection of future age group teams.

A release from the SVGFF states that in order to be eligible for the Under-10, players must be born 2007 or after, while for the Under-14 Division – 2003 or after, and the Under 18 Division – 1999 or after.

Coombs also used the forum to congratulate the Barrouallie Sports Association for their continued effort in developing football in their community and St Vincent and the Grenadines, generally.

At that opening ceremony, New Boys, a debutant in the league, was adjudged the Best Dressed Team that was on show.

Twenty-one teams in the senior division have registered for this year’s Barrouallie Football League, with another eight in the Under-17, six in the Under-13, while the number in the female division is undetermined.(RT)
