Sixth Firms’ Invitational Football Tournament gets going

The sixth edition of the Digicel, Aeropost, St Vincent Brewery Firms’ Invitational Football Tournament is into its first week of competition at the Grammar School Playing Field, following last Saturday’s official opening ceremony, held at the same venue.

Nineteen teams, stashed in two groups, are contesting for honours in the senior competition.{{more}}

Group One is headed by defending league winners – the Ministry of Education, along with first timers – BRAGSA, the exciting Bonadies, SVG Port Authority, Combined Couriers, also debutants, National Fisher Folks, Coreas Hazells Inc, Digicel, Customs and Toni Combine Stores.

Heading up Group Two are last year’s Knockout winners, CWSA and that group also contains CK Greaves, newcomers Massy Stores, R & R Construction Transport and Works, FLOW, KFC, Gaymes Pharmacy, which is a reconfigured Gibsons Building Supplies, Vinlec and RSVG Police.

At last Saturday’s opening ceremony, Massy Stores took the Best Dressed Team award and received a prize of a cake, donated by Leo and Jennifer’s food outlet at Heritage Square.

In on-field action, inaugural league winners in 2011 Vinlec secured the Soccerama title.

Meanwhile, 12 units will contest the Agriculture Input Warehouse Under-16 division.

Listed in Group One are System Three One, United Strikers, Volcanoes, Belfongo Youths, Adare and Central Shooters, while in Group Two are Largo Heights, Ruddy’s Electrical Strike Force, Layou, Richmond Hill, System Three Two and Chelsea.

This is the third year the junior segment of the tournament is being hosted.(RT)
