Shne Joachim takes dip at Rio Olympics
Teenage swimmer Shne Joachim was the first Vincentian representative to go into competition at the Rio Olympic Games taking place in Brazil.
The 16-year-old Joachim last Sunday competed in heat two of the womenâs 100m breaststroke.{{more}}
She finished seventh in her heat, with a time of 1 minute 17.37 seconds.
This placed her 38th overall of the 44 competitors who were listed in the event.
However, Joachimâs effort was outside her personal best, as she had timed 1 minute 14.64 seconds at the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships, which were staged in The Bahamas, June 29 to July 3.
That performance gained her a bronze medal.
Meanwhile, another Vincentian swimmer, Nikolas Sylvester, who is also 16, will contest the menâs 50m freestyle on Thursday.
And, Brandon Valentine âParris hits the track August 12 in the 400m menâs heats and Kineke Alexander also will contest the womenâs 400m on Saturday, August 13.
Except for Alexander, the other three are experiencing their first outing at one of the worldâs biggest event in sports.(RT)
