The donation, which included caps and goggles, was handed over to members of the club last Friday, during the closing ceremony of the GTCâs Summer Camp.{{more}}
In making the presentation of the Speedo gear, director of the GTC Grant Connell told members of the Shining Stars Swim Club, âYou canât get better than that, because you deserve the best.â
Connell noted that his conscience was pricked to assist the club, after seeing their attire at a swim meet at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre recently.
âNext time you are at the pool at Ratho Mill, when you walk in there, as when you walk in Grassroot Tennis Club, nothing matters …Those things what you hear about where you come from and who your mommy is and what your daddy does and what your mommy work is, does not matter … You are special …You are talented,â Connell quipped.
Connell described the efforts of the clubâs leader Teran Matthews as determined, despite the limitations of resources.
âYou are someone of little means, but you still give…. You have that quality that St Vincent and the Grenadines needs now to heal us as a nation,â Connell said.
He also pledged that the GTC will, from here on in, fund the clubâs entrance fee to future championships staged under the aegis of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Swimming Federation.
Connell projected that one of the clubâs raw swimmers, Kisharie Lewis, will soon be rubbing shoulders with the whoâs who in swimming, here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.(RT)
