Middlesex on the double again in BCL
Vincentian outfit Middlesex, for the second successive weekend, had two wins in the Brooklyn Cricket League.
On Marine Park A, Middlesex faced Diplomats and were awarded the match after a rain interruption. Middlesex, after winning the toss and decided to bat, were dismissed for 168 runs in 29 overs. Jamaica national Cassius Burton, who has represented his native Jamaica in the WICB 4-day tournament and the Combined Campuses and Colleges in the regional Super-50 series on debut for Middlesex, stroked 78, in which he hit eight fours and one six.{{more}}
Bowling for Diplomats, Swanton Benjamin took 4 for 34 and Mokesh Patel â 2 for 27.
Following a break for rain, play was unable to resume because of a wet pitch and waterlogged outfield. The match was awarded to Middlesex, because Diplomats did not produce a cover for the pitch as the host team; hence they lost the match.
Then, on Sunday at Marine Park C, Middlesex faced Yankees, and came out winners by nine wickets. Batting first, Yankees were dismissed for 140 from 27.1 overs. Bowling for Middlesex, off spinner Treldon McMillan grabbed 4 for 17, Cassius Burton â 2 for 28, Rod Michael- 2 for 29 and Chandrapaul Roopnarine â 2 for 40.
In reply, Cassius Burton made 62 not out, contained nine fours and two sixes , Mark Audain, a breezy 28 from nine balls (seven fours) and Debru Buattachaya â 32 not out, as Middlesex rushed to 141 for 1.
Another Vincentian team, Queensbury, were in fine form on Sunday as well, beating Diplomats by three wickets at Marine Park B.
Batting first Diplomats posted 199 for 7 from 30 overs; Richards Coates made 55, Swanton Benjamin â 32, Ryan Persaud â 31 and Winston Skerritt â 28.
Bowling for Queensbury, Kenneth Charles had 2 for 7; Dillon Harry 2 for 42 and Fitzroy Caesar â 2 for 47.
