SVG to host U-17 CFU qualifiers
St Vincent and the Grenadines will host Group Three of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) male Under-17 qualifiers from July 20 to 24.
This was made known at the opening of the Diamonds Village Football League recently, by president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) Venold Coombs.{{more}}
However, Coombs stopped short of announcing the venue(s) for the matches, but said that he is working closely with the Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture.
The hosting of the group, which also includes St Lucia, the seeded team, along with Bermuda and Grenada, comes soon after the staging of Carnival celebrations.
Victoria Park, which is the preferred venue for such matches, is also the main facility for Carnival activities.
Additionally, the CFU tournament comes almost with the start of the West Indies Under-19 Cricket Tournament, which may rule out the Sion Hill Playing Field and the Arnos Vale Playing Field, which are fixtured for the cricket matches.
There are five other groups to be contested during the same period.
St Kitts and Nevis will host Group One, which also contains Barbados, Cuba and Dominica.
Meanwhile, the Cayman Islands will host Group Two with Haiti, Puerto Rico and Aruba, the visiting outfits.
Group Four, which the United States Virgin Islands will host, sees Jamaica, Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda, the other participating countries.
Guadeloupe will host Group Five, with the Dominican Republic, Curacao and St Martin and Suriname will host Group Six, with The British Virgin Islands, Anguilla and The Bahamas.
The winners of the six groups, along with the best overall runner-up, will go forth to the final stage to join hosts Trinidad and Tobago. The finals will be played from September 18- 25.(RT)
