SVG Community College reach First Division cricket final

Debutants French Verandah SVG Community College marched into the final of the National Lotteries Authority First Division by defeating Victors Two last Saturday at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field.

Community College batted first and scored 155 all out in 37.5 overs; Jeremy Layne hit 4 fours and 1 six in his 41, with Dion Bynoe, 33 and Reon Williams, 20, being the other main contributors.{{more}}

Bowling for Victors Two, Adinol Richards took 4 for 36 and Jamal Nash, 2 for 25.

In reply, Victors Two were dismissed for 83 in 24.2 overs, undone by the bowling of Tijoun Pope, who bagged 6 for 27 and Jeremy Haywood – 3 for 12, as SVG Community College won by 72 runs.

The other semi–final set for Sunday at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field, between Ruddy’s Electrical Unique Warriors and Smashers was rained out and will be rescheduled.

In another first, the SVG Community College will journey to Barbados to participate in the 30th edition of the Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament from July 3 to 20.

The team will be led by Kody Horne and also includes Jeremy Layne — vice-captain, Reynolson Hillocks, Handal Roban, Ronaldo Franklyn, Samii Peters, Akeem Woods, Jeremy Haywood, Shane Roberts, Rayon Williams, Alistair Shallow, Aleon Caesar, Javin Liverpool, Deroney May, Tilron Harry and Randall Roberts.

Dion Bynoe and Anfernee Joseph, members of the team in the local competitions, will serve as the team’s assistant manager and assistant coach respectively. Roxell John will perform the role of manager/head coach, while Ramon Johnson travels as the team’s trainer/physio.

The SVG Community College will compete in Zone A against Foundation School and St Leonard’s School of Barbados; Fatima College, Vishnu Boys Hindu College and Presentation College of Trinidad and Tobago; Queens College of Guyana; and Oakville Academy of Canada.(RT)
