As has been the case for years, the decider was against archrivals, Maple. Having played to a 47-47 tie in their first meeting, as the division with only four teams hosted two rounds of matches, Mitres ended the contest in the ascendancy.
Maple promised much after the first quarter, which finished 11 apiece, and the second 26-25 in favour of Mitres. But the decisive third quarter saw Mitres pulling away to establish a seven-goal advantage, 41-34, before formalizing, the win, 56-48, and the lone outfit to play unbeaten.
Responsible for Mitresâ tally were Gailene Gordon, who poured in 44 of her 51 tries and Shellisa Davis who had a good night as goal attack, making 12 of her 16 tries at scoring count.
Meanwhile, for the runners-up, Skiddy FrancisâCrick, who this year is celebrating her 30th year as a Maple player, had 44 of her 50 tries tallied, with Thelma Foster scoring 6 of her 9 and Rose Clair Hall 1 out of 3.
Then, last Tuesday at the same venue, Mitres landed another telling blow on Maple, beating them 60-45, as the two squared off in the knockout.
Mitres thus gained the right to meet Twilight Trading X-Ceed in the final, set for next Wednesday, June 29.
The presentation and closing ceremony takes place following the final.(RT)
