SVG makes representation at Hampton Games in Trinidad
St Vincent and the Grenadines track and field team at this yearâs hosting of the Hampton Games at the Hasely Crawford Stadium staged last weekend in Trinidad returned moderate performances.{{more}}
Rising distance athlete Zita Vincent took gold in the Under-16 1,500m in a time of 5 minutes, 08.95 seconds, with fellow Vincentian Chaunte Williams, third in 5 minutes 26.90 seconds.
Also taking gold was Kimorie Shearman in the menâs invitational 400m. Shearmanâs winning time was in 47.43 seconds.
Other medallists were Daria Matthias, Grenisha Thomas and Ulanda Lewis.
Matthias took bronze in the Under-18 females 100 m in 12.27 seconds, while Thomas also took the third place in the females Underâ14 400m. Thomasâ time was 1 minute 02.15 seconds.
Lewis clocked 26.27 seconds to finish third in the females Under-14 200m run.
Meanwhile, Josh Hamilton came in fourth in the menâs 100m in 10.53 seconds, with Vincent also fourth in the womenâs 800m in a time of 2 minutes 25. 22 seconds.
Another fourth place was gained by the Vincentian contingent through Shahalia Lynch in the womenâs long jump, with a best leap of 4.96m. Likewise, Matthias was fourth in the 200m. Her time was 26.08 seconds.
Down the field, Mackayla Mc Dowald was sixth in the females Underâ14 100m in 13.31 seconds; Krystal Foster placed sixth in the womenâs discus, with a throw of 31.93m and Shahalia Lynch placed eighth in females Under-16 400m, clocking 1 minute 2.15 seconds.
Mc Dowald was also sixth in the 200m, clocking 27.06 seconds; Shearman was seventh in the menâs 200m, timing 21.85 seconds and Krystal Fosterâs best effort of 8.92m put her seventh in the womenâs shot put.
The Vincentian contingent had Rawlson Morgan as manager and Chantel Legair as coach/chaperone.
St Vincent and the Grenadines is set to participate in the OECS Championships in July in Tortola.(RT)
