Simple Boyz reach quarter-final stage of Clinchers Softball Competition

Defending champions of the SVG Police Co-operative Credit Union Clinchers T/20 Softball Cricket Competition Gairy Construction Simple Boyz have made it through to the quarter-final stage of the 2016 edition.{{more}}

Simple Boyz overcame a few anxious moments last Saturday at the Richland Park Oval, before crafting a 15-run win over Bank of SVG All Stars, as the Big Sixteen phase commenced.

Playing a man short, Simple Boyz were dismissed for 60 in 16.5 overs. Elric Morris top scored with 20. Brenton Arrindel took 3 for 10 and Ron Adams 3 for 25 for All Stars.

Stein Joseph snared 3 for 9 and Keneal Skinner 3 for 12, as All Stars were dimmed for 48.

Also on Saturday, Smashers advanced by beating Calder United by 99 runs.

Taking first strike, Smashers tallied 144 in 18.4 overs, with Junior Ashton making 30, Glendon James 29 and Glenford Woodley 27.

Bowling for Calder United, Andrew Jordan picked up 3 for 29.

At their turn, Calder United crashed to 45 all out in 16.5 overs, with Glendon James taking 2 for 3, Linton Peters, 2 for 10 and Travis Peters, 2 for 13, being the main wicket takers.

On Sunday, Nice Radio Clinchers, Owia Young Strikers and former winners CGM Gallagher Novice also made it through to the last eight.

Clinchers outplayed We Come Back Street Fighters by six wickets.

Street Fighters got to 77 all out in 16.4 overs, with Oheyan Toby taking 4 for 16 and Carlon John 3 for 19.

In response, Clinchers rushed to 78 for 4 in 9.4 overs; Carlon John made 42.

Meanwhile, Owia Young Strikers blew away Gunners by seven wickets.

Gunners’ batting first failed to fire and were dismissed for 61 in 19.4 overs, to which Owia Young Strikers replied with 64 for 3 in 8.4 overs.

In Young Strikers’ run chase, Osnet Cato scored 28.

And, Novice registered a two-wicket win over Fully Loaded Ballerz in hump dinger.

Fully Loaded Ballerz, batting first, were restricted to 96 for 8 off their 20 overs. Newborn Joseph proved to be Novice’s best bowler, taking 2 for 18.

Novice, though, were made to grind it out, to reach 97 for 8 in 18.3 overs.

Renrick Williams laced six sixes in his knock of 47, while Sunil Phillips picked up 3 for 18 for Fully Loaded Ballerz.(RT)
