System Three cop women’s football title too
The System Three females set the pace last Sunday at the Victoria Park, to kick off the clubâs title achievements on the day in the National Club Championships.{{more}}
System Three and Campdonia-Chelsea One were poised for battle, as both outfits were locked on eight points, thus setting up a virtual final.
Featuring several members of the senior national team, the expected battle was reflected in the intensity of both teams.
A goalless first half re-emphasized nothing much between the two.
However, on resumption, Shannique De Shong found herself unchallenged in the opponentsâ six yards box, to jab the ball in the net, from a left side cross.
This happened in the 45th minute and proved the solitary goal, which gave System Three the title.
System Three, therefore, finished on 13 points, ahead of another title contender, Volcanoes, who finished second with 11 points, while Campdonia-Chelsea remained on 11 points and claimed the third spot.
North Leeward Predators placed fourth, with the other competing teams â Campdonia- Chelsea Two and Owia taking the minor places.
In the awards ceremony which followed the Premier Division final, the departmental awards were snatched by the four top finishers.
Taking the Most Outstanding Goalkeeper prize was Giany Marshall of North Leeward Predators, with Giselle Wilson of Campdonia-Chelsea One, the Most Outstanding Defender.
Gabrielle Ollivierre of System Three was adjudged Most Outstanding Midfielder and Volcanoesâ Asha Richards, who scored 16 goals, the Top Goal Scorer.
The local women footballers will turn their focus on defending the Windward Islands Football Associationâs tournament.
St Vincent and the Grenadines won the inaugural tournament, which was held here last year.
