Roderick John on the beat in Clinchers softball competition

Roderick John was ballistic in his boundary-filled knock of 91, which stationed RSVG Police to 144 for 8 from 20 overs against Gomea Bombers, last Sunday afternoon at the Richland Park Oval, in the SVG Police Co-operative Credit Unon’s 20/20 softball cricket competition.{{more}}

John’s innings saw him launching 11 sixes and four fours.

For Gomea Bombers, Ovando O’Brien took 3 for 9 and Raymond Simmons, 3 for 20.

But Gomea Bombers were arrested for 105 in 15.2 overs, as the lawmen won by 39 runs.

This was one of five matches in another action-packed weekend in the competition.

Also on Sunday, Dr. Thomas Injectors beat Bank of SVG All Stars by 17 runs.

Batting first, Dr. Thomas Injectors reached 121 all out in 18.3 overs, with Elroy Nanton getting 34 and Julian Mc Nichols, 26.

Kelly Murray was the pick of All Stars’ bowling taking 5 for 13.

Damion Allen then produced a beaver trick to end with 4 for 4, as All Stars went out at 104 in 18 overs.

Also played on Sunday and making the highlight reel, was a super over, which determined the winner between Gunners and Snipers Reload.

Gunners got 88 in 18.4 overs; Danny Allen, 29.

Bowling for Snipers Reload, Emmanuel Baptiste took 3 for 28.

At their turn, Snipers Reload too was dismissed for 88 in 20 overs. Jason Williams, 27.

In the Super Over, Snipers Reload made 14 while Gunners hit a six off the last ball to reach 15, and match honours.

Before Sunday’s dramas, teams from over the river, Owia Young Strikers and Sion Hill Tallawahs, were in the ascendancy on Saturday.

Owia Young Strikers defeated Smart Strikers by 42 runs.

Choosing to bat after winning the toss, Owia Young Strikers reached 107 for 7 off their 20 overs. Diswayn Williams topscored with 33.

Denis Grant took 3 for 18, bowling for Smart Strikers, who were dismissed for 65 in 17.1 overs. Smarts Strikers were outwitted by the bowling of Zaniel Baptiste, who snared 3 for 12.

Sion Hill Tallawahs registered a 115 run win over Rate Yo Boyz Challengers.

Sion Hill Tallawahs asked to take first knock, got to 164 for 8 in their 20 overs. Leading the batting was Irwin Williams, who posted 33.

Rate Yo Boyz Challengers were sent packing for 49 in 14.3 overs.

Marlon Baptiste grabbed 5 for 4 and Shanlery Lavia, 3 for 10, to coast Sion Hill Tallawahs to an uneventful triumph.

RSVG Police’s Roderick John earned the Player of the Weekend accolade.
