Club aiming for fifth straight lien on National Juvenile Championships
High Performance, previously named Negative To Positive (N2P), winners of the National Juvenile Championships for the past four editions, will be looking to add a fifth, when this yearâs athletics competition takes place this Saturday, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.{{more}}
The Layou-based High Performance will be banking heavily on those athletes who just came out of the inter-primary and inter-secondary schoolsâ championships, which took place last Wednesday and Thursday.
Expected to field the largest contingent of athletes, High Performance has in its stock several key members of the Layou Government School team, which placed second in the inter-primary championships, as well as others from the St Martinâs Secondary, which docked in second in the male category of the secondary schoolsâ meet.
Fifty-five events are listed for tomorrowâs championships, which will see all being run on a final heats basis.
The top three times/heights/distances will be awarded, while points will be given to the first eight positions in each event.
A release from Team Athletics SVG states that athletes participating in the Under-7 category must be born 2010 and later, and will contest the 60m, 80m, 4 x 50m and the shuttle relay.
The Under-9 category (athletes born 2008 and later) will compete in the 80m, 100m, 150m, 4 x 80m and the shuttle relay, with the Under-11 (athletes born 2006 and later) facing off in the 100m, 200m, 400m, standing broad jump, baseball throw, as well as the 4 x 100m.
Those athletes who were born 2004 and later are eligible for the Under-13. They will contest the 100m, 200m, the baseball throw, long jump and 4 x 100m. The males in this age group will run the 1,000m and the females â Â800m.
And the Under-15 (athletes born 2002 and later) contest the 100m, 200m, discus throw, long jump, shot putt and 4 x 100m. The males also run a 1,200m and the females – 1,000m.
The championships are set to commence at 9 a.m.
