Blue Marlins net eight medals at St Lucia swim meet
The Blue Marlins quartet of Adiah Phillips, Brandon George, Bryson George and Kennice Greene, accompanied by coach Neisha Alexander, returned with eight medals from a very successful swim meet at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre Invitational (RHAC) in St Lucia. The team placed 16th overall from a field of 25 regional clubs.{{more}} The swimmers, with an average age of just nine years, demonstrated their intent to develop into future regional contenders in the sport of swimming.
Eight-year-old Kennice Greene led the teamâs success by copping six medals and seven personal best times from the 11 events she entered. She won gold in the 50m backstroke, setting a new meet record, and silver in the 50m fly. She was also able to attain four bronze medals in the 25m, 50m and 200m freestyle and the 25m backstroke events. She placed third overall in the 7-8 age group for girls.
Eleven-year-old Bryson George won two medals and achieved four personal best times. He received a silver medal in the 800m freestyle in his first competitive attempt at the event and a bronze in the 100m breaststroke. His younger sibling, eight-year-old Brandon George, managed an impressive nine personal best times in the 11 events he entered.
Ten-year-old Adiah Phillips, one of the newcomers to competitive swimming, was able to perform credibly well by achieving seven personal best times of the eight events she entered.
The Black Sands Swim Squad and the Bequia United Swim Club were the other two local clubs to compete at the event. Some 300 swimmers from six countries participated.
