The North Leeward institution re-affirmed its status as the most competent of the four outfits that entered this yearâs tournament, with a polished 10-point win over the Bishopâs College Kingstown in the final, played last Friday afternoon at the New Montrose basketball facility.
Petit Bordel won the contest 43-33. This was after they had taken the first quarter at 18-8, the second â 26-20 and the third â 34-29.
Kannique Lewis poured in 32 points, earning herself the player of the final award. Leading the scoring for the Bishopâs College Kingstown was Gabriel Lewis, who tallied 12 points in her teamâs efforts.
Prior to last Fridayâs final, Petit Bordel, en route to the title match, had trounced the Girlsâ High School 71-8, in what was termed a semi-final, with perennial finalist the Bishopâs College overcoming the West St George Secondary, 32-12, in the other play-off.
West St George copped the third place, with a 44-6 defeat of the Girlsâ High School.
And, despite losing all the matches, the Girlsâ High School was voted the most disciplined team.
Speaking at the closing and presentation ceremony, Karel Bramble, a member of the interim committee of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation, said that despite only having four female teams in the competition, the prospects are encouraging, as most of the participants were from the lower forms of their institutions.
He projected that come 2017, more schools would participate in the tournament.(RT)
