Bequia Community High School takes male division basketball title

The Bequia Community High School finished the lone unbeaten team when the Secondary Schools’ Basketball Competition closed off last Friday at the New Montrose facility.{{more}}

Taking on the reigning champs, the Bequia Community High, with a show of all-round domination, outpointed their opponents, the George Stephens Senior Secondary, from the first whistle.

After leading 19-16 at the end of quarter number one, Bequia Community High scored 30 points to the George Stephens Senior Secondary’s 2, to be 49-18 by the halfway mark.

At the end of the third quarter, the imminent winners were 58-24 in the ascendency and finally took the one-sided affair, 77-34.

Jordel Bynoe had a game high of 25 points for Bequia Community High School, with Reon Ollivierre sinking 18.

For the dethroned champions, Vivian Smart was his team’s top scorer, with 12 points.

Nicholas Lewis of the Bequia Community High was named the Most Valuable Player of the final.

Before last Friday’s final, the St Vincent Grammar School, who had beaten the George Stephens Secondary in the semi -finals, took the third place play-off, by getting past the Bequia Seventh-Day Adventist 63-54.

The other half of the semi-finals had pitted the two Bequia secondary institutions.

Adjudged the Most Disciplined Team was the St Vincent Grammar School.

Also participating in the competition were the West St George Secondary and the Thomas Saunders Secondary.

Apart from gaining places on the St Vincent and the Grenadines team to this year’s Windward Islands Schools’ Games in Grenada, those players who are Under-16 will soon be involved in a 3 on 3 islandwide tournament.

Karel Bramble, who spoke on behalf of the interim committee of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Association at last Friday’s closing and presentation ceremony, disclosed that the winner of the 3 on 3 will earn a spot in a regional competition.(RT)
