Alexander adds another TASVG’s Athlete of the Year award

Kineke Alexander was last Saturday formalized as the 2015 Team Athletics SVG’s Senior Female Athlete and the Athlete of the Year.

Alexander gained the award for the third straight year, when Team Athletics SVG staged its recognition and awards ceremony at Frenches House.{{more}}

This country’s most accomplished female athlete, Alexander pouched the award on the back of her bronze medal gained at the PANAM Games in Canada. At that meet, Alexander placed third in the women’s 400 metres in a time of 51.50 seconds.

During the year, Alexander recorded her best time at that distance, with a time of 51.23 seconds in San Marcos, Texas, USA.

Her times booked her a place at the Rio Olympic Games, set for August 5 – 21 in Brazil.

Also during 2015, at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Alexander set a new St Vincent and the Grenadines 200 m women’s indoor record of 23.24 seconds, bettering her previous mark of 23 .3 seconds.

Other awardees

At Saturday’s ceremony, others had to play the supporting cast to Alexander’s achievements.

Reuberth Boyde, who won a silver medal at the Carifta Games in St Kitts/Nevis, was named the Junior Male Athlete of the Year, while Shantell Williams, who broke the 100m and 200m intermediate records at the Inter Secondary Schools’ Championships was the Junior Female Athlete of the Year.

Durable long distance athlete Pamenos Ballantyne, who won the BVI Half Marathon and was second in the NACAC 10K Chatoyer Endurance Race, again palmed the Senior Male Athlete of the Year for the umpteenth time.

Also emerging female long distance athlete Zita Vincent was named the Most Promising Athlete, taking away the Calvert Woods trophy, with Grandiesha Cain – the Talent ID awardee. Cain was rewarded with the Stuart Rudy Louie trophy.

Off the track, Michael Ollivierre was adjudged Coach of the Year; Technical Official of the Year was Joonyah Garrick and Taj Moore – Volunteer of the Year.

X-Ceed Sports Club won the Club of the Year award.(RT)
