Guinness ‘Got Balls?’ pool competition moves onto eighth, final round
Marty Knights beat Rocky Punnett two straight games in the wee hours of Sunday morning to earn himself a place in the March 12 finals of the 2016 Guinness âGot Balls?â pool competition grand finale.{{more}}
Knights played unbeaten in the seventh round of competition, which took place at Azard St Hill in Troumaca. His journey started on Saturday, February 26 and ended hours later when he beat Punnett in the final game of the night.
âI am the champion for tonight and I will be trying my best in the finals,â said Knights after collecting his EC$500 prize money from tournament supervisor Cleve âSkipâ McKenzie.
He said that this is the second time he has entered this particular pool tournament and that he has been playing pool for over 30 years.
The eighth and final round of the 2016 tournament takes place this Saturday, March 6 at the Tree House Bar in Arnos Vale.
Persons who have qualified for the finals so far are Jeffrey Casino, Alson Barker (last yearâs winner), Ozzie St Hillaire, Andy Lynch, Dygo Sergeant and Glenroy Cupid. Notably missing are persons like Tex Franklyn and Camilus Pitt, who dominated the competition last year, but so far have been unable to qualify.
McKenzie said that the final qualifying round will take place this Saturday and interested persons are encouraged to take up registration between 6 and 8 p.m. at the venue. To register, a competitor must purchase three Guinness beverages. Players will compete using the best of three format.
âThe finals will see the best person on the night of March 12 walk away with EC$5,000,â said McKenzie.(RT)
