Doris McIntosh returns as SVGNA’s president

Doris Mc Intosh, who served as president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association (SVGNA) from 2004 to 2010, was last Wednesday evening given the nod from affiliates to return to the top post.{{more}}

Mc Intosh’s vote of confidence, with a margin of 21 votes to 9, against her lone challenger Wollis Christopher, came as the SVGNA conducted its Annual General Meeting at the Thomas Saunders Secondary School.

Promising to fix the age old issue of umpiring, Mc Intosh, who held the position of secretary on the outgoing executive, also thumbed the firming up of the strategic plan for the association, as another of her team’s priority areas.

The framing of the strategic plan began in 2014, under then president Dellarice Duncan, but its content was never fully fleshed out.

Mc Intosh said that she would be banking on her immediate past president Duncan for guidance on several other matters of the association.

The other officers elected included long-standing treasurer Jacintha Ballantyne, who assumed the post of first vice-president, while Sylvorn Harry will continue as second vice-president for another two-year term.

Both Ballantyne and Harry were installed unopposed.

The new secretary is Diana Robinson, who garnered 23 votes, in a three-way race. Gailene Gordon – 6 and Silma Millington – 1 completed the ballots tallied at the end of the voting.

Neteko Quammie, who appeared to be unknown to affiliates present, however beat the nomination of Gailene Gordon, 28 to 0, as he was the unanimous choice for treasurer.

As the executive places are recycled, Cheryl Alexander defeated the incumbent Thelma Foster, 18-12, as the new games secretary, with Diane Questelles, after a two-year absence, taking over from Jennifer Richardson as the public relations officer. Questelles had no opponent for the position.

And newcomer Helen Yammie joined Perlina Thomas as the two committee members elected.

Thomas, who held the position for the past two years, gained 16 votes and Yammie – 25.

Others who contested the two spots were Elizabeth Mc Kenzie, Shenika Haynes and Gershell Peters.

Last Wednesday’s meeting which was postponed from Saturday, February 27, also heard the committee of management report and the treasurer’s report.

It was agreed at the meeting that the commencement of the 2016 National Club Tournament will take place on March 19.

This represents a deviation from the norm, as the tournament opens on a Saturday, instead of the usual Sunday.(RT)
