Jason Doyle, Kai Bentick on double in Squash Open
Jason Doyle won the male Under-19, as well as the overall title, while Kai Bentick was tops in the male Under-15 and Under-17, as the two Vincentians gained double titles in the second edition of the Junior Open Squash Tournament hosted by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Squash Association at the National Lotteries Authority Squash Centre, located at Paulâs Avenue.{{more}}
The three days of the tournament â Friday, Saturday and Sunday saw Doyle bossing the Under-19 and Bentick coming in second.
Bentickâs triumphs had Shomari Wiltshire of Guyana taking the double seconds in the two age categories.
St Vincent and the Grenadinesâ other title holder was Thandi Myers, who came up trumps in the female Under-17, leaving Makeda Harding of Guyana to settle for the second place.
Guyana took the other three titles which were declared.
Harding overcame Barbadian Jada Smith-Padmore to take the Under-15 crown.
Meanwhile, Shomari Wiltshire took the top podium finish in the Under-13 ahead of Barbadian Alex Jerome-Stewart and Taylor Fernandes topped the females Under-19, ahead of Larissa Wiltshire, also of Guyana.
The closing ceremony last Sunday was addressed by Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture Cecil McKie and president of the SVG Squash Association, who both embraced the competition for the local players from those from Barbados and Guyana.
The two speakers expressed thoughts of mapping out a pathway to make the annual tournament a marquee event on the regional squash calendar.(RT)
