TBPO Softball Cricket Competition moves up a notch

Five matches were contested last weekend in the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Progressive Organization’s Softball Cricket Competition at the Dauphine Playing Field.

Chalking up double wins were Nice Radio Clinchers, while Bank of SVG All Stars had a mixed bag, with one win and a loss.{{more}}

On Saturday, Clinchers won over Georgie Valley Saints by 135 runs.

Clinchers made 152 for 6 in 17 overs, led by Marlon Farrell with 49 and Okeiph Andrews – 27 not out.

Bowling for Georgie Valley, Shem Da Silva took 2 for 22 and Zane Greaves had 2 for 30.

In reply, Georgie Valley was decimated for 17 all out, as Kenton Lavia, 3 for 5, Okeiph Andrews, 2 for 3 and Peter Richard, 2 for 9, did the demolition job.

Clinchers then returned on Sunday morning to register a five-wicket win over Dr Thomas Injectors.

Injectors batted first and made 66 for 8 in 17 overs; Elroy Nanton got 19. Marlon Farrell – 2 for 18, Desron Spring – 2 for 13 and Orlando Lavia – 2 for 15, combined to dismiss Injectors.

Clinchers then took 13.5 overs, to reach the target of 67, losing five wickets in the process.

In between, Joey Liverpool picked up 2 for 2 and Damian Allen – 2 for 21.

Also asked to play back-to-back was Bank of SVG All Stars. Facing Sunset Strikers, All Stars ended in the ascendancy by seven wickets. Sunset Strikers scored 50 for 6 in 15 overs; Kelique Samuel took 2 for 11.

In response, All Stars rushed to 51 for 3 in 4.2 overs, in which Noel Audain stroked 23 and Jerron John – 20.

But All Stars could not maintain their momentum and fell to Stingers by five runs.

Batting first, Stingers got to 89 all out in 19.1 overs. Calbert Simon top scored with 36. Bowling for All Stars, Glenroy Dasent took 3 for 24 and Dwayne Williams – 2 for 18.

All Stars, though, fell for 84 in 18.3 overs; Keyon Boyea got 32. Topping the bowling for Stingers were Kemron John, 2 for 12, Calbert Simons, 2 for 15 and Bradley Richard, 2 for 22.

However, the much anticipated clash, between defending champions Gairy’s Construction Simple Boys and former winners CGM Gallagher Novice, went in a favour of Simple Boys by the default route.

Reports, however, are that the Novice outfit is not prepared to go down without a fight, and plans to protest the outcome.(RT)
