Team Coombs sweeps SVGFF’s elections
Team Coombs, comprising Venold Coombs, Otashie Spring, Marvin Fraser and Wayde Jackson, swept all four positions which were contested last Saturday, November 21 at the Media Centre of the Arnos Vale Playing Field.{{more}}
This, when the 48 affiliates sat to elect a new executive to serve for the next four years.
The incumbent Coombs, in a two-way fight with Roddy Dowers, took the contest 31-19, as he was returned to the post.
Newcomer to the national football set-up, Spring, outdid four other candidates on his way to the first vice-president position.
Spring gained 14 votes to Wayne Grantâs 12, while Kendale Mercury and Osbourne Bowens got 8 votes each and Keith Duncan, 6.
Returning to the second vice-president position was Marvin Fraser, who garnered 22 votes, ahead of Clemroy Francois,15; St Clair Stapleton, 5 and the unknown Rockwell John, 3. There were three spoilt ballots among the lot.
Meanwhile, Trevor Huggins, who had earlier indicated his intention to contest, withdrew his nomination just prior to the vote for the post.
And, the new man in the position of third vice-president is Wayde Jackson, who outsourced the previous holder Elroy Paul Boucher and Bevan Lewis. Jackson tallied 29 votes to Boucherâs 11 and Lewisâ 8.
The four elected positions will see the president receiving a stipend of $1,800 per month, while the vice-presidents get $1,200. The committee members would get a monthly stipend of $800.
Additionally, when members go on overseas assignments on behalf of the SVGFF, a per diem ranging from US$100 to $500 is granted.
The executive would be completed with the election of four committee members and Coombs appointing another two, which will make the total of six.
Last Saturdayâs elections were part of the SVGFFâs Annual General Meeting, which also entailed the reading, correction, amendments and matters arising out of the minutes of the last General Meeting, as well as the Presidentâs and Auditorsâ Reports.
