Deighton Butler stars for North East in Masters’ cricket

Deighton Butler starred with both bat and ball to lead defending champions of the SVG Masters Cricket Competition North East to an emphatic 10-wicket win over Kirk Da Silva’s La Croix on Saturday at the Park Hill Playing Field.{{more}}

The former St Vincent and the Grenadines, Windwards and West Indies One Day International player bagged 4 for 6, to lock La Croix to 65 for 8 off 20 overs.

Jerry Matthias assisted Butler’s effort, taking 3 for 7.

North East then rushed to 66 without loss, doing so off seven overs; Deighton Butler was 45 not out.

On Sunday, Park Hill United defeated Cato’s Heavy Equipment Glamorgan by seven runs also at Park Hill.

Batting first, Park Hill United got to 117 for 7 off 20 overs; Andy Quashie made 33 not out. Elvis John took 4 for 25.

Glamorgan made 110 all out off 19.5 overs. Samuel Richards scored 25 and Kendal Buntyn – 24.

Freddie Dougan picked up 3 for 7 and Oscar Ryan had 2 for 23.

At Arnos Vale Two, Kirk DaSilva’s La Croix side-stepped Marriaqua by 20 runs. La Croix put together 116 for 8 off 20 overs, with Elroy Francis hitting 28.

Elmundo Shoy took 2 for 18, bowling for Marriaqua, who in response could only make 96 for 5 from their maximum 20 overs. Elmundo Shoy top scored with 31, while Benedict Phillips had figures of 2 for 17.

Meanwhile, Stanley Browne’s Stubbs defeated St Vincent Cooperative Bank Ptani by eight wickets at Arnos Vale One.

Ptani scored 109 all out off 20 overs; Alfred McKenzie made 28. Anthony Richards snared 3 for 20 and Livingston John – 2 for 6.

In reply, Stubbs were 109 for 2 off 15.5 overs. Christopher Campbell stroked 55 not out, as Ptani lost their first match for the season.

And, North Leeward defeated Belfongo by seven wickets.

Belfongo reached 125 for 3 off 20 overs, with Aaron Bascombe on 25 and Junior Bacchus – 24.

North Leeward, in response, got 126 for 5 off 17.5 overs; William Edwards was 48 not out and Felix Greaves – 36.

Round seven matches takes place this weekend, beginning with Belfongo and Sion Hill at Arnos Vale One and Park Hill and North East at Park Hill from 2 p.m. on Saturday.

On Sunday, Bequia face Stubbs from 10 a.m. at Arnos Vale One, while the 2 p.m. matches feature North Leeward against Barrouallie at Arnos Vale One, RSVG Police versus Pastures at Arnos Vale Two and Park Hill facing Ptani at the Park Hill venue.(RT)
