Twenty-four players engaged themselves in a rejuvenation of tennis last Saturday at the Grassroot Tennis Club, as that entity hosted the Flow Tie-Breaker.
Emerging as champion of the senior segment was former Junior Champion Fabrice George, who dominated the main draw, defeating Arnol Horne 7-4 7-1, then Akezo Quammie in the semi-finals 4-7, 7-3, to advance to the final.{{more}}
George then took out Akeem Guy 5-7, 7-4, 7-3, to win the first place trophy, as well as tokens, compliments Flow.
In the juniors draw, Akeil De Roche cut across the gender barrier, defeating two top junior female players in Gabrielle Benn and Anastasia White, defeating them 7-4, 7-2 and 7-6, 7-3 respectively.
In his match-up with Amarlia Benn, De Roche earned a hard fought 7-2, 6-7, 7-5 duel in the final.
Representative of Flow Corey Garrett was on hand to present trophies and gifts from Flow to players. He expressed his satisfaction with the tournament and pledged their continued support.
Garrett told SEARCHLIGHT that his company was able to contribute, despite the economic crunches.
He said that tennis is one of the sports to which his company has made little contribution, but he viewed the GTC partnership as the break point in this regard.
Director of GTC Grant Connell said the club will try to have such a tournament at least once per month, in an effort to rekindle the spirit of competition, especially among the budding players.
Connell thanked Flow for their contribution even at short notice.
âClearly they are aware that the investment in youth is priceless and they continue to be good corporate citizens with their contribution to the development of the game of tennis in SVG and sports in general,â Connell said.
