Clean sweep for Simple Boyz in Digicel Hairoun Lauders Softball Competition
After being delayed for five weeks, the Digicel Hairoun Lauders Softball Competition finals took place over the weekend at the Lauders Playing Field.{{more}}
Gairy Construction Simple Boyz defeated CGM Gallagher on Sunday, 16 August in the Digicel Hairoun Lauders Softball Competition.
Novice, batting first, was only able to reach 56 off 19 overs, with Kentish Phillips being the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 7 runs; Eldon Morris took 2 for 4 and Stein Joseph took 2 for 15.
In their reply, Simple Boyz, losing only three wickets, made 57 off 9.3 overs. Desron Maloney, top scoring for Simple Boyz, made 24.
Simple Boyz took most of the awards that day.
Jabari Cunningham of the Simple Boyz team was named the player of series and was also awarded for having made the most runs over the course of the tournament.
Kentish Phillips, also of the Simple Boyz team, won the award for taking the most wickets (16).
Simple Boyz coach Edgerton Morris took the award for best coach and best manager over the course of the competition.
Vernado Primus of CGM Gallagher Novice took the award for taking the most catches, with a total of 12.
Simple Boyz have now secured their spot to take part in the National Softball Competition, which will be starting at a date to be announced soon.(CM)
