National Under-15 footballers for CFU tournament
St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) will be part of the Caribbean Football Unionâs (CFU) Under-15 football tournament, which kicks off in Anguilla and St Maarten this weekend.
The Vincentians have been placed in Group Three, alongside host St Maarten, Antigua and Barbuda and Curacao.{{more}}
Selected to represent SVG are Chrisheur Harry, Nigel Matthias, Ryan Matthias, Zamaro Mofford, Javon Ollivierre, Faron Kelly, Chelson Hendrickson, Joash Nash, Tevin James, Vanzizi Victory, Nzico Lotmore, Kennie Isles, Garet Leigertwood, Javon Clasp, Khyle Browne, Kesroy Ryan, Clinton Payne and Zaadan Simmons.
The schedule will see the Vincentians meeting St Maarten on August 8, Curacao on August 9 and Antigua and Barbuda, the following day.
Group One includes host Anguilla, Cayman Islands, St Lucia and the United States Virgin Islands, while Group Two consists of Bonaire, Dominican Republic, Grenada and St Kitts and Nevis.
The top two countries from each group and the two best third places will advance to the quarter-finals scheduled for August 12, with the semi-finals on August 15 and the tournament decider, August 16.
The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be played in St Maarten.
Despite the late notice from the Caribbean Football Union that the tournament will be played, assistant coach of the SVG team Carlton Dennie expects his charges to do well.
The tournament, originally a wider CONCACAF competition, was put off from being hosted in the Cayman Islands.
Dennie noted that the team had stopped training after news that the first tournament had been postponed indefinitely.
