De Aussies, Royal Challengers top Bequia cricket titles

Defending champions Ken’s Trucking Knights Trading De Aussies retained the Hairoun Beer Bequia Premier League title, while Royal Challengers procured the knockout honours.{{more}}

The two titles were decided last weekend at the Clive Tannis Playing Field in Port Elizabeth, Bequia.

In the major decider, De Aussies defeated arch rivals Sugar Reef Bequia United by six wickets on Sunday.

Bequia United made 119 off 17 overs. Cosmos Hackshaw punched in 40, as Dean Browne, 3 for 16, Razine Browne, 2 for 35, Shem Browne, 2 for 40, shared the bowling honours for De Aussies.

In response, De Aussies proceeded to 120 for 4 off 14.1 overs; Oswald Soleyn led the charge with 61 not out. Rickford Walker, with 3 for 33, took the bowling consolation for Bequia United.

In the third place play-off, which preceded the final, Friendship United succeeded over Village Apartments/L’Auberge/De Grenadines Port Elizabeth by 115 runs.

Friendship United scored 154 for 9 off 15 overs; Allan Foyle made 49. Jerome Toney took 3 for 23 and Clint Martin 2 for 35.

In reply, Port Elizabeth were 39 for 9 off eight overs, as Desbert Yorke snapped up 3 for 3, Kirton Lavia 3 for 8 and Alrick Pompey 2 for 10; and Royal Challengers beat Friendship United by one wicket to clinch the knockout title on Saturday.

Friendship United scored 157 for 7 off 17.5 overs, led by Desbert Yorke’s 84, while Levan Stowe chipped in with 30.

Timothy Mitchell had figures of 3 for 47 and Adinol Richards 2 for 8. Royal Challengers then strolled to 161 for 5, off 14.4 overs.

Sheldon Pompey was the main contributor with 63 and Ryan Richards hit 34. Allan Foyle had 3 for 41 in a losing effort for Friendship United.

Bequia United’s Cosmos Hackshaw was the leading run scorer in the league competition – hitting 258 runs, with Dean Browne of De Aussies with 38 scalps – the leading wicket taker.

Gavin Ollivierre of Bequia United had the highest individual score and was among the 14 batsmen who lashed centuries in this year’s competition.
