Division of PE and Sports personnel get volleyball training
Some members of the Division of Physical Education and Sports are now in a better position to introduce the sport of volleyball to beginners.
This, after they were exposed to the basics of the sport at a one-day workshop, staged at the Grammar School Playing Field recently.{{more}}
Conducting the session was Canadian coach Sean Mc Kay, who is on an Olympic Solidarity assignment here.
The trainees are expected at the start of the new academic year to be able to go into the schools and execute their introductory sessions to the students.
The session with the divisionâs personnel forms part of the âGrowing the Teamâ initiative â a tag line developed by McKay, which he hopes, after his four-month stint is over, will catch on.
McKay noted that all the parts of his programme have been touched, including the grassroots, schools and communities.
He expects with the appointment of point persons in the three critical areas that volleyball will thrive in the shortest possible time.
Vance Andrews, who is a member of the Division of Physical Education and Sports is the man responsible for getting the sport into the primary schools, the hosting of volleyball festivals, camps and other efforts at spreading volleyball throughout the various communities across St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Mc Kay, who is nearing the end of his assignment here, has identified the late entry into volleyball as one of the hindrances to its progress in St Vincent and the Grenadines.(RT)
