Church Road secures Stubbs cricket top prize

Total Protection Security Services Church Road Connection locked away for safe keeping the 2014 South East Development Inc.{{more}}Twenty/20 cricket first prize last Sunday afternoon at the Stubbs Playing Field.

Church Road Connection was set 104 to win by the previously unbeaten Victoria Village Future Stars, and crossed the line at 107 for 6 with three balls to spare.

Experiencing some stutters on the way, victory was achieved when Kissinger Mc Lean carted Kentish Basconbe’s delivery to the midwicket boundary in the third ball of the final over.

It was player of the final, Roland Wilkinson who helped suture Church Road’s innings. He topscored with 43, which included three sixes and a pair of fours. Osbert George contributed 22.

Bowling for Future Stars, Kentish Bascombe took 2 for 16 and Terron Simon 2 for 19. Future Stars batted first and were dismissed for 103 off 17.4 overs. Leading from the front, Seon Sween struck 39, in which he laced three fours and six.

Dyke Cato picked up 3 for 10 and Keron Cottoy scalped 2 for 16, bowling for Church Road Connection.

Before them on Saturday, Top Guns emerged as third place winner with a six run overtake of Nuts and Rum Mix Up Moods.

Top Guns scored 125 all out in 19 overs; Kevin Toby- 28 not out was the topscorer.

Joey Welcome took 3 for 34, Kurtland Thomas 2 for 15 and Ronaldo Coombs 2 for 21, bowling for Mix Up Moods.

In their chase, Mix Up Moods stopped at 119 all out in 20 overs; Ronaldo Coombs hit 29 and Joey Welcome contributed 23, but were unable to overtake Top Guns’ total.

Shaquille Browne snared 4 for 27 and Junior Adams took 2 for 21 for Top Guns.

Apart from the challenge trophy and the winner’s trophy, Church Road Connection pocketed $1200, while Future Stars earned $800 and Top Guns $500. (RT)
