Top Vincentian Junior Squash players at Caribbean Squash Championship
Four members of the SVG Squash Association junior team are presently in Bermuda, taking part in the XXXII Junior Caribbean Area Squash tournament, which runs from July 11 to July 19.{{more}}
The contingent includes Kai Bentick, who is the national and OECS Under- 13 and 15 champion and is ranked No. 2 in the Caribbean for Under-13 boys. Jason Doyle, who was a former Under-13 Caribbean champ, is currently ranked No. 2 in the Under-17 Caribbean age group. Doyle is the top national and OECS Under 17 and 19 champion and will be hoping to secure a spot in the finals. Thandi Myers, the national and OECS Under-15 and 17 champion will be playing in the Under-17 category for the first time and is ranked 5/8 and expects to break into the top four. Deiriai Myers, national runner-up Under 17 and champion Under-19, was runner-up in the OECS Under-17 category, and will be competing in the Under-17 age category and also expects to make the top four. The Vincentian contingent was sponsored by the National Lotteries Authority.
The selection for the team took place at the recently held Junior OECS tournament, which was held in St. Lucia.
The team left St Vincent on July 9 and is accompanied by their coach James Bentick and manager Tessa Shallow-King.
The team members will be joined in the Bahamas by Andre Segovia (SLU), Kerstin Gordon and Abiyomi Maddox (BVI). The individual events begin today and the team events on July 16.
