SSTTA gears up for Bajan challenge

The Sean Stanley Table Tennis Academy (SSTTA) will host a visiting team of Barbados Under-20 Table Tennis players this weekend in a series of friendly matches at the Old Kingstown Anglican School Annex.{{more}}

Among the visiting team’s contingent is top Barbados Under-18 player Stephen Payne, who has St. Vincent and the Grenadines roots, as his mother is Vincentian.

Payne is no stranger to the SSTTA, having worked out with Stanley here last year while on a visit to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

This friendly series gets going this evening from 7:00 pm with team matches. Tomorrow, Saturday, there will be competition in the teams and the open singles beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The finals are set for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening .

Stanley told SEARCHLIGHT that his academy’s effort is all part of the developmental quest of the Academy as it relates to young people in Table Tennis throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Stanley said that apart from providing members of his academy with some much needed exposure, the friendly matches will provide some hope for the young Table Tennis players here who have been left in the wilderness by the Executive of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association.

Stanley said the trip was also made possible by the efforts of John Pilgrim of Barbados.

It is the second time the SSTTA is hosting a team from Barbados. A team also engaged the academy players in 2010. (RT)
