Imperial takes BCL Knock Out title
It was worth the wait for Vincentian cricket club, Imperial, in the 2008 Brooklyn Cricket League Knock out Championship, as last Saturday they captured the long awaited title.{{more}}
The game, which had been delayed two successive weekends because of rain, was eventually played as scheduled at the Marine Park against Punjab Cricket Club.
Batting first, Imperial made 203 for 7 in 30 overs.
Former Grenada and Windwards opening batsman, Kester Sylvester hit 70, Otniel Mofford 30, Orient Bostic 28 and Mark Lawerence 24 were the main contributors with the bat.
Junaid Qasim took 3 for 41, bowling for Punjab.
At their turn, Punjab reached 184 for 7, off their 30 overs. Swent Waseem 58, Abdul Khan 33 and Anar Bilal 24.
Kester Sylvester not only spoke with the bat, but he also took the matter of the ball in hand, taking 2 wickets . Like Sylvesterâs all round effort, so too was Lawrence with 2 for 34.
This win gave Imperial, the lone piece of silver ware of the three Vincentian outfits. Cavaliers and Stars United failed in both the league and knock out formats.
Imperial along with the other winners and outstanding individuals will receive their trophy and prizes when the Brooklyn Cricket League holds their Annual Presentation and Dance tomorrow Saturday 11th October at Night Flight Lounge and Bar on Albany Avenue.
While the Brooklyn League competition has ended, all is not finished with cricket in Brooklyn, as most of the team are currently participating in the Hussain 20/20 championship where the winner takes it all. (RT)
