IsraAID launches Early Childhood project in SVG
IsraAID Dominica and Eastern Caribbean, in partnership with the Ministry of Education through the Early Childhood Development Unit in St Vincent and the Grenadines, has launched the Kelan Early Childhood Disaster Risk Reduction Education Initiative, a pioneering effort to equip young learners with the knowledge and tools to better prepare for disasters and hazards.
The initiative focuses on reaching the most vulnerable – children at the early childhood level – by providing innovative, engaging resources that make disaster preparedness both accessible and fun. These resources include game boards, puzzles, an animated video series, activity books, teachers’ guides, songs, and more, all designed to help children and teachers build confidence and resilience, a release from the agency states.
The programme begins with training sessions for teachers, equipping them to effectively use these materials in classrooms across the country. By strengthening the capacity of teachers, the initiative ensures that disaster preparedness becomes a natural part of early childhood education.
“Our young learners are among the most vulnerable in times of crisis. By introducing preparedness skills at an early age, we are building a culture of resilience that starts in the classroom and extends to families and communities,” IsraAID Dominica and Eastern Caribbean Director, Moacyr Bittencourt, is quoted in the release as stating.
IsraAID is an international non-governmental organization that partners with local communities around the world to provide emergency relief and long-term development support. In the Eastern Caribbean, IsraAID works to strengthen resilience through disaster risk reduction, education, and psychosocial support initiatives.
