Those partly fixed roads
Editor: Roads continue to be a discussion and a talking point. The road leading from the beginning of Peter’s Hope onward to Mt.Wynne has been dug up for close to one month. We recognize that it was in need of repairs. But it is even worse than how it was and so it makes it more challenging for vehicles to travel on.
To date the road is not completed. It is still to be asphalted. It leaves the public to wonder if there is a shortage of asphalt, since the road was dug up and some materials placed in it, but not yet asphalted. If getting asphalt is the reason for the incompletion, then it begs the question if at the beginning of digging up the road BRAGSA was aware that there is no asphalt. If the answer is yes, then was the road dug up? It would have been better to wait until all the materials are available before commencing the repairs.
For as it is right now, without the asphalt the road cannot be completed. So as it stands now, the road is more difficult to travel on, since vehicles have to be careful when travelling on it since there are holes and sinks in the road. If one is not careful, it can cause harm to the front end of the vehicles.
The next question is, “ if there is a shortage of asphalt, then when would it be available? If it takes a long time before asphalt becomes available, then the travelling public would have to endure the continued challenge of travelling on the road in this deplorable condition.
While still on roads, it is important to mention that there is some sinking in the road at Layou just above the NDP office and little beyond Sybil Hill on the way to Cumberland heading from Kingstown. If these are not dealt within a reasonable time, we would witness the collapsing of these roads.
Let us hope some action is taken sooner than later on these roads and remember that it is better to avoid the worse from occurring than allowing the worse to happen, then monies would have to be found to do the remedial work, bearing in mind it would be more expensive then that if it is fixed now.
