Labour party supporters remained red and buoyant
Supporters of the Unity Labour Party (ULP), turned out in numbers for the party’s first major event since the party lost the November, 2025 general elections.
By official count, 617 supporters of the party- some seated, others standing- packed the Russell’s Auditorium on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 for a meeting of the National Council of the ULP, the party’s highest decision making body.
Despite the one hour late start- past the 5:00 p.m. scheduled commencement, supporters remained upbeat and the arrival of the ULP’s political leader and Leader of the Opposition Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, sent the hundreds of supporters into shouts, screams, and dances of joy.
Speeches were delivered by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Ashelle Morgan, who spoke of the work of the ULP during the party’s more than two decades in governance.
Former Minister of Housing, Orando Brewster in his turn at the podium raised the meeting’s temperature, as he compared the work of his ministry to that under the current administration, and the impact on SVG’s housing programmes and policies.
