Biabou man fined for cocaine possession
A man of Biabou and Union Island was fined $100 after being caught with a cigarette box containing cocaine in Union Island.
Okkie Matthews, 54, appeared at the Serious Offences Court before Chief Magistrate Colin John, on May 19, where he was charged that on May 14, 2026 at Union Island, he had in his possession a controlled drug to wit: 1.5 grammes of cocaine with intent to supply it to another.
The facts as stated in court are that on the date in question at about 7:48 p.m, Police Constable 1013 Phillips was among a party of police officers from the Special Service Unit (SSU) and the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) on mobile patrol duties about Union Island.
While in an area known as Salt-pond, Matthews was seen walking along the Union Island Public Road with a black and blue knapsack on his back.
The officers approached Matthews and PC Phillips identified himself and the party as police officers dressed in SSU and RRU uniforms, respectively.
