Recipient of Norma Keizer scholarship expresses gratitude to donors

The Norma Keizer Scholarship Foundation (NKSF) continues to positively impact the lives of young people and a former scholarship recipient and her father have showed their gratitude.

Aijalon Walters, who entered the Girls’ High School in 2017 has presented plaques of appreciation to the NKSF and to the Findlay family of Barrouallie whose donations made the scholarship possible.

Faylene King received the plaque on behalf of the Findlay family last Friday, and yesterday, August 14, Clare Keizer received the plaque on behalf of the NKSF.

The plaques were designed by local craftsman Randy Clarke.. The one presented to the NKSF thanked the organization for its “great support and coordination.”

Since 2015, the Norma Keizer Scholarship Foundation (NKSF), through fund-raising and generous donations, has been helping to ease the financial burden of students in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). The scholarship is managed by SEARCHLIGHT Newspaper/Interactive Media Limited.

Aijalon said she was awarded the scholarship when she became a student of the Girls’ High School (GHS). It was funded through donations from the Findlay family (Sylvia, Ethel, Joycelyn and Faylene) of Barrouallie through the NKSF.

“We are just showing our gratitude for the scholarship,” said Aijalon who obtained nine CXC/CSEC passes and will in September pursue university studies at the St Mary’s University in Canada.

“It (the scholarship) really helped a lot, as it is a lot to upkeep especially in a school like GHS, so it really helped us where we needed it.

“When you look back at the people who helped you, you want to show gratitude and thanks just to let them know they are appreciated, so we felt it was necessary and appropriate to do something like this,” Aijalon said, while revealing she will be pursuing a major in psychology and criminology with “hopefully” a focus on also achieving a certificate in forensic science.

Aijalon’s father Ferrand commented to SEARCHLIGHT that as a parent he knows what it would have been like without the scholarship during the various semesters.

“It made a lot of difference. It was tremendous ease for the five years,” the proud father said while thanking the plaque’s designer for the artwork.
